The Year in Review

In the spirit of 2003 ending and 2004 beginning--here is an exercise I give my coaching clients.

As 2003 draws to a close, it is a good time to review and assess the year that is ending. It is also a marvelous time to reflect on the victories and wins of the year and to prepare for new levels of personal and business success in the new year.


So as we transition into 2004, take a moment to reflect, take inventory and ask yourself:

1. What are you most proud of achieving this year? What accomplishment puts a big grin on your face when you think about?
   
   
2. What was you biggest challenge this year? How did you handle it?
   
   
3. What gifts of learning did this year give you?
   
   
4. Is there something you would have handled differently this year? If so, in what way would you handle it differently?
   
   
5. Did you move towards your personal/professional goals? Did you achieve the goals you set for yourself this year? If you find you didn't move towards your goals or achieve them, what specifically stopped or sidetracked you?
   
   
6. Where have you made a difference this year? Whose life have you touched? And, in what way? (Given that every action has an effect on those around us, you have contributed in some way to your environment and to the people in it. So, think about it. The contribution could be as simple as taking an extra moment with someone at work who really needed to be listened to. There is no doubt you made a difference to someone or somewhere in the last 365 days.)
   
   
7. Is there something you regret not doing this year? If so, what is it that you regret? (Remember, you are in assessment mode when answering these questions. Assessment does not include evaluating or judging.)
   
   
8. Are there any themes you notice as you ask yourself these questions?
